| Intel Core i5 3317U vs i3 3217U |
The Intel Core i5 3317U and the Intel Core i3 3217U are a couple of Ultra-low-voltage processors that were released at the same time in the second quarter for 2010. The two feature a similar, almost identical, set of features and parameters.
Both the i5 and the i3 are dual-core processors without hyperthreading and 3MB of L3 cache. The only difference is that the i5 clocks at 1.7GHz per core, while the i3 clocks at 1.8GHz per core, which is not that big of a difference in all honesty. Where the i5 outperforms the i3, however, is in its higher performance-per-dollar rating and the significantly higher overclocked clock speed. The i5 can be overclocked to 2.38GHz, while the i3 budges by a single MHz, up to 1.81GHz.
So the verdict is pretty clear: despite being almost unnoticeably slower, the i5 outperforms the i3 when it comes to efficiency and overclock speed.
