Intel Launches Xeon E7 v4 Processors

by Scott Michaud |
www.pcper.com
The E7-8XXX line can be run in an eight-socket motherboard, while the E7-4XXX models are limited to four sockets per system.
With Intel's Xeon naming scheme, the leading number immediately after the E7 in the product name denotes the number of CPUs that can be installed in a multi-socket system.

Intel Readying 15-core Xeon E7 v2

by Ian Cutress |
www.anandtech.com
2.8 GHz Turbo Frequency (though the design will scale to 3.8 GHz).
Judging by the available information, it would seem that Intel are preparing a stack of ‘Ivytown’ processors along this design, and thus a range of Xeon E7 processors, from 1.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz, drawing between 40W and 150W, similar to the Xeon E5 v2 range.
In an 8 Socket environment, eight of these chips would amount to 120 cores and 240 threads with a 300 MB cache shared via QPI v1.
Last year at IDF13, Intel launched their Xeon E5 ‘Ivy Bridge-EP’ parts enabling 2-socket platform designs in the server market.

Intel Xeon E7 V2 Family Will Pack 15 Cores

by Niels Broekhuijsen |
www.tomshardware.com
The E7-8800 V2 chips would work in configurations that feature up to eight sockets and will feature 15 cores per CPU, along with Hyperthreading, resulting in 30 threads per socket.
They will also carry 30 MB of L3 cache and have quad-channel DDR3-1866 memory support, per socket.
