The E7-8880L v3 is a low power version, relatively speaking, which will also contains eighteen cores that are clocked at 2.0 GHz.
The largest model is the E7-8890 v3, which contains eighteen cores fed by a total of 45MB in L3 cache.

The prevalence of multithreaded code is server and workstation environments make the frequency difference extremely important, especially when it comes to the types of workloads that have frequent memory delays and accesses.
If it happens in a core as part of the logic or caches, that core can be fused off and the die can sold as a lower core part.

If that is not enough cores, then you can pick up an eight-socket motherboard and load it up with multiple of these.
While Ivy Bridge-EX was available with up to 15 physical cores per processor, double that with HyperThreading, Haswell-EX is increasing that to 18, or 36 simultaneous threads with HyperThreading.
It might also come to pass that some server motherboard manufacturers will end up supporting the DDR4-2133 at 3DPC, similar to some efforts made with Patsburg.
Low quality conversion loves faster individual cores, hence the W processor wins out due to its higher full-load frequency.
