Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3

Released April, 2013
  • 3.4 GHz
  • Quad core
5.5 Out of 10

The previous Ivy Bridge-EX flagship had 4.31 Billion transistors configured on a 541mm2 so its easy to tell that the Haswell-EP takes die size and transistor count to a new level.

The price difference between the 14 core model and the 16 core model is nearly $1000, making budgets and workloads being important factors in this decision.

I'm thinking of buying this one for my build, instead of the i7 4770K, because it turns out MicroCentre doesn't do shipping. Is it a good idea?
