5.3 Out of 10

Like the title says really, I got revision C3 and it easily overclocks to 4 GHz even on a motherboard (Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2p) with RAM (No-name generic) that really isn't designed for overclocking.

When it comes to benchmarks, the overclocked Phenom II X4 955 processor was nearly 20% quicker!

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Socket Type

Editor's Note: Just for fun we also ran the memory at 800MHz with 4-4-4-12 timings and found the average bandwidth to be reduced to 10,656 MB/s from the 12,949 MB/s shown in the chart above.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)
This 64-bit chip is based on the Deneb processing core, and was developed using AMD's 45nm production process.
by PCMag (Oct, 2011)
Purchased less than a month ago and its max overclock was equal to that of my PII x4 820 and temps were 20C+ higher and it took more wattage.
by grubby99 (May, 2012)

Socket

By just raising the multiplier we were able to easily reach 3.80GHz, which is an overclock of 600MHz with no voltage changes at all.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)
However, our initial efforts at increased voltages hit the wall at 3.7GHz, which isn't higher than what we achieved with an overvolted 940.
by Tech Radar (Jun, 2009)
Benchmark Results with a GeForce GTX 295 Graphics Card: World In Conflict showed the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition was clearly in the lead and rightly so as it has a faster clock frequency and more physical cores.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)

Multicore

Looking ahead, Intel has the Core i5 series (Lynnfield) of processors in the works.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)
X4, of course, indicates four cores, which is as good as it currently gets.
by Tech Radar (Jun, 2009)
If you enable AMD Cool'n'Quiet the processor will automatically reduce it's internal multiplier down to x4 and lower the core voltage for power savings.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)

Performance

What you do get is an incremental improvement over a chip that already delivered extremely satisfactory performance.
by Tech Radar (Jun, 2009)
Legit Bottom Line: The AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is the fastest desktop processor in AMD's aresnal and rightly so, as it supports socket AM3 technology and a 3.2GHz clock frequency.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)
With a clock frequency of 3.2GHz, the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is the fastest clocked quad-core processor AMD has ever released.
by Legit Reviews (May, 2009)

Price

love this cheap when i had it but water pump stop working and blow chip and amd would not warrenty it as i bent to meny pins apperently but would by agian if price right.
by skyline_king88 (Apr, 2012)
Performance is key when it comes to choosing a processor and the Phenom II X4 955 proved to be tough competition to the slightly more expensive Intel Q9550 processor.
