AMD releases FX-8300 CPU and Athlon X4 860K

by Nick Farrell |
AMD has fitted the CPU with 2 MB of L2 cache and it should be priced for the budget market.
The CPU cores are clocked at 3.2 GHz but can be boosted to 3.5 GHz.
The FX-8300 on the other hand is an old processor launched in the Chinese market featuring 8 Cores, 8 Threads, 3.3 GHz clock speed, 4.2 GHz boost clock, 8 MB L3 Cache and a 95W TDP compared to 125W on the FX-8350 that is the flagship Vishera SKU.
The new processors are aimed at the FM2+ and AM3+ platforms, the Athlon chip will be the fastest Athlon series processor in AMD’s lineup while the FX-8300 is a 95W chip with a sub-$150 price.
These three Kaveri APUs are expected to hit the market around a sub-$100 US range.
Now AMD has been using the A-Series branding for their APUs but the branding is also featured on the Athlon processors which are simply accelerated processing units with the GPU chip disabled.

The only issue with this review is that it takes integrated graphics into account. That severely lowers the score on an otherwise fabulous card.
in the end is better the athlon, because it´s a quadcore....for that single fact, wins.
in the witcher 3 the g3258 lags because is a dual core....for this fact, the athlon is better.
This is the same processor as A10-7850K without GPU. I use the same voltages for Athlon 860k at stock clock. Tested 48h in Prime95, stable, no errors, 47°C with stock cooler. This is the undervolt limit, with this settings don't try to increase CPU FSB, CPU multiplier or NB multiplier, the system will not boot. Definitely, the best buy AMD Quad Core CPU... CPU Clock = 3700MHz / CPU Voltage = 1.2V NB Clock = 1800MHz / NB Voltage = 1.1375V
what now you say? :)))
AMD FX-8370 VS Intel Core i7 5960X!!! ULTIMATE SHOW DOWN!!! :D
I'm not even sure where to start with your unintelligence... . An i5 4430 DESTROYS, shits and spits on an 860k. And a Pentium takes down an Athlon in things that aren't multithreaded. Games are still singlethreaded and the ones that need 4 threads to launch (FC4) show than an i3 trumps an 860k. It even managed to beat an 8350
is i5 4430 better than Pentium G3258? is FX 6300 or new FX 8370E better than poor DUAL CORE Pentium? what you say? yes? then go compare 860K with this all CPUs end then say something... 860K is have the same score and perfomace like i5 4430 (and much others i5,even of some i7 (not new i7) ),860K is BETTER and have better score than FX 6300! 860K have the same perfomansce like OCTA CORE FX 8370E, 8320,8320E etc. and all this CPU EAT this poor dual core Pentium... then tell my,if is 860K better than fx 6300,same like i5 4430 and half AMD FX OCTA cores CPUs, how is then one shit cpu of Pentium better? better in what? price? :D stupid noob...
The only real difference is the chipsets that the cpus run on and the manufacturing process. Global Foundries (amd and other cheap cpus) is in the process of updating their manufacturing process to, by 2018, surpass intel completely. In 2015 AMD is going to release Carizzo, a 20nm cpu, which, will be much better performance for watt. Another thing AMD is doing is, as you had mentioned, adding multi core support to everything. DX 12 and Mantle already do this, and, eventually the IPC of AMD cores won't matter.
the pentium is dual core , even per core performance is better in multi core it "slightly" wins , and also most games nowdays need quad core , so with the pentium said , with a bit more price for the 860k , its a good investment , for example , fc4 wont run on dual cores cpu ,so its better quad core than sorry
Not true. Watch this. And no, I don't know how this works either...
wins in bf4, and watch dogs.... this is a good thing for the athlon when DX12 comes out. Plus they are equal when all cores are utilized, so either way, I think they should be used in different situations, even when DX12 comes out. Pentium for just plain gaming just to save some money on your power bill, Athlon for multithreaded tasks, like streaming, video rendering, etc.
Sadly loses to the Pentium G3258. You fought well my friend.
