Ever wondered what the inside of CERN’s computer center – the place where all that Large Hadron Collider magic happens – looks like? Watch this video and get a glimpse inside the incredible mechanical brain of the LHC, where over 1,000 MB of data is stored per second. (According to PC World, the LHC actually produces about 1,000 terabytes of data per second, but this number is cut down and only the most important data is kept.) The center is also where all that data is processed and turned into information physicists can actually use.
The center also features an “animal shelter” for retired computer mice. Yeah, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
